NUMERICAL TOOLS
Flowpak is a leading consultancy company in Qatar that uses advanced numerical tools like Ansys CFX, IES, FDS and EVAC to assess building performance during normal operations and fire emergencies.
Our team simulates VAC performance, thermal comfort equipment optimisation, smoke management, and evacuation during emergencies to provide our clients with valuable information for building design and effective evacuation plans.
By utilising these advanced tools, we can provide a comprehensive and realistic assessment of a building’s performance during normal operation and during fire emergencies in Qatar.
This provides our clients with valuable information for building design and supports the development of effective evacuation plans.
ANSYS – CFX
ANSYS – CFX is a software tool for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation and analysis. It is developed and marketed by ANSYS, Inc., which provides various engineering simulation software tools for multiple applications.
CFX allows users to model, analyse, and optimise the flow of fluids (such as gases and liquids) in complex systems.
It can simulate various phenomena, including fluid flow, heat transfer, chemical reactions, and multiphase flow.
CFX can be used in various applications, including designing and optimising HVAC systems, power plants and other systems involving fluid flow.
ANSYS – CFX software is used by various organisations, including engineering firms, manufacturers, and research institutions, to design, analyse, and optimise complex systems.
IES : Integrated Environmental Solutions
The Virtual Environment (VE) is a set of analysis tools used by sustainable design experts for designing and retrofitting buildings. It utilises a state-of-the-art simulation engine to facilitate collaboration between architects, engineers, and contractors from concept design to operation, with a focus on embedding energy and performance analysis throughout the building’s life cycle.
The VE includes HVAC Systems Sizing and Optimization, using a flexible, schematic component-based approach for quickly assembling HVAC plant and control systems.
It also features HVAC Loads Sizing Calculations based on the ASHRAE Heat Balance method, which can be linked with SunCast for solar shading and ApacheHVAC for System and Plant sizing.
The VE has a central simulation processor that allows for assessing all aspects of thermal performance and sharing results and input across various VE applications.
Additionally, it can simulate airflow driven by wind pressure and buoyancy forces using a fast multi-zone thermo-fluid solver.
FDS : Fire Dynamics Simulator
Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) is a software tool that uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model smoke and heat behavior in buildings during a fire.
It is used to analyse smoke management systems, including smoke ventilation and smoke control systems.
It can predict smoke and heat behavior in different types of buildings, simulate the effects of ventilation and fire suppression systems and evaluate the effectiveness of different smoke management strategies.
EVAC : Evacuation Analysis
EVAC (Evacuation Analysis) is a software tool used to simulate the movement of people in a building during an emergency evacuation.
It can be used in combination with FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) to simulate the evacuation of people from a building during a fire and provide an integrated analysis of both the fire and evacuation performance of a building.
This allows for the evaluation of the effects of smoke on evacuation and the assessment of different smoke management strategies on evacuation performance.
The combination of EVAC and FDS can be used to identify areas of improvement and ensure the safety of building occupants during emergency situations.
